If you can make a Granny Square you can make one of these!
Use any yarn or hook that suit each other (this one is 10 ply cotton and a 4.5mm hook)
Make a 3 round Granny Square BUT on the last side once you've made your corner you do 3 x TRIPLE (double treble in U.K.) crochets into the tops of the double crochets underneath from the last round (one in each stitch)
NO CHAINS and then 6 x TRIPLE crochets into the space of the last round
NO CHAINS and 3 x TRIPLE crochets into the tops of the double crochets underneath from the last round
NO CHAINS and finish your corner as normal.
Finish off and cut your yarn.
Fold your Granny Square in half so the bulky side makes the rounded toe of the stocking.
Rejoin your yarn at what will be the top of the stocking and single crochet (double in U.K.) around the square to close it up.
Join your contrasting colour at the open top of the stocking.
Single crochet (double in U.K.) around the opening. Chain one and turn and single crochet into every stitch.
Repeat for 3-5 rows until the top is high enough to fold over to your liking.
Finish off leaving a long tail and use this to darn in the loop so the stocking can hang on your tree.
